We’re looking for someone to take significant ownership of testing and product quality at Flok, for both our patient facing application and internal clinician tools.

This is an IC role (at least for the foreseeable future), but with scope for technical leadership in terms of setting testing strategy and direction - depending on the seniority of the candidate hired.

What You'll Do

As the first dedicated test hire at Flok, to some extent the shape of the role will be decided by you depending on where your experience/interests lie, in combination with the test strategy that we set together based on our technical/commercial goals, but we envision that some/all of the following activities will be involved:

  • Automated testing (particularly e2e, scale and device-compatibility testing)

  • Manual testing (where appropriate/helpful)

  • Setting overall test strategy, prioritising test work and writing QA test plans

  • Managing the software release process

  • Documenting software releases and test activities in our medical device regulatory file

  • Reviewing / inputing into product requirements

  • Setting the bar on high quality bug reporting

  • Contributing to bug triage / diagnosis

  • Contributing to incident investigations and internal support queries

  • Potentially fixing some of the bugs you find

  • Configuring CI systems

  • Contributing to improving the observability of our systems (to make bugs easier to diagnose, and to provide the metrics/instrumentation needed for testing)

  • Providing input into system design / architecture decisions with an eye to testability

You’ll work alongside the rest of the engineering team on these activities - developers will continue to also write tests, and all Flok employees will continue to test the product internally - but you will be the sole person (at least initially) who is solely focused on testing and test strategy, and will take ownership of testing at Flok.

Help us shape the way the software team works as we grow, maturing our processes and mentoring new hires. You'll work with company leadership to make strategic decisions, have direct contact with patients your work helps, and invent things to solve problems we haven't yet spotted.

About You

  • You have significant programming experience (ideally Python/Typescript)

  • You have wide-ranging experience in a system/software test engineer role (or as a software engineer focusing on whole system testing and overall product quality), and are comfortable with a breadth of different styles of testing

  • You're comfortable configuring CI systems and setting up test environments

  • You enjoy working with design and product teams to help shape the product you're building

  • You care about your users - ensuring good experience and access to quality clinical care for our patients

  • You take initiative and ownership of your work, and are a clear communicator

Bonus Points

We don't expect you to have all of these, but be sure to mention any that you do!

  • Experience with software medical device development (or other regulated industries)

  • iOS/Android testing experience and/or browser based testing of web apps

  • Worked with video streaming and/or real-time technologies

  • Experience working in a startup

  • Managed release processes

  • Set test strategy for your team/product/company
